9 months to go…
Last night, the family busted out the champagne for me. It was definitely more than a personal victory to get into Wonderland Law School. Even though my family is tight-knit, I was still surprised that they were so happy for me. I am sincerely grateful that I have a family that cheers me on no matter what, when I fail and when I win.
Warm fuzzy feelings aside, if I don’t count November and assume school starts in late August, then I have about 9 months to get ready for law school. I’m equally relieved that my cycle is over so quickly and anxious about what to do with all this time. As soon as I feel more grounded (this all feels too surreal), I’m going to try and make a practical action plan for this gap year. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a gap year to law school blog (if you have, please let me know!) and I think it would be interesting to chronicle this “prep” time.
For others still waiting for their cycle results: you got this. Also, don’t be afraid of thin envelopes. I almost threw away the small envelope from Wonderland Law School because I was so crushed that I didn’t get in… In fact, it was my admit letter! Still, I wanted to read the “Sorry, it’s not you, it’s us” line with my own two eyes before I tossed it. You can imagine how surprised I was when I saw the first line: Congratulations!
At the bottom of the letter, there was a handwritten note from the Dean of Admissions. This is going to sound pathetic, but I even checked my address on the envelope AND on the letter to make sure it was really mine. I’m in, hallelujah! Another thing, my postal office was kind enough to work overtime to get me this letter (it was supposed to come on Friday but it was Veteran’s Day). Be kind to postal workers. Holidays are rough.
Congratulations on getting into Wonderland Law School.
Thank you!
Congratulations!! That is absolutely amazing and you deserve to celebrate and be happy! I look forward to hearing about your gap year, both the fun and the things you may do to prepare for law school.
Congrats again!! *throws confetti*
Thanks! I took a peek at your blog and noticed that you’re taking the Dec LSAT. GOOD LUCK!
I’ll try to keep it real about my gap year– I’m not rich enough to travel the world, but I’m sure I will find a way to make it enjoyable.
My advise is to enjoy life for the next 9 or so months. Enjoy the holiday coming up. Spend as much time with family & friends that it might annoy them. Go on trips to see things on seen (if you can afford too!
). The first year will take a lot out of you – more than you can imagine. But it teaches you many great lessons & the best one of all is that of time. This time next year you will be surrounded by books, outlines, treaties, podcasts or recordings of classes. You will not hear, see or notice your family because you will either be in the library or in some study room with a study group. After finals, you just might sleep through Christmas & the New Year… I am making these observations based on the time & effort you put into the LSAT. So my advise is enjoy. You got into a GREAT law school & you will be successful. There is no “real” way to prep before you get there, so enjoy this “gap” period. BTW if you read anything, read something you will completely enjoy. Everything you read after you start school will be far less enjoyable.
JT, thanks for the encouraging words and advice. I will enjoy this gap year, for sure. As of now, I don’t want to sugarcoat my 0L prep– if I do it, I’ll write about it. If not, meh, I won’t write about it. As a college senior, I dreaded a gap year– too much uncertainty for my taste– but now that I’m here, I want to own it.
Congrats!!!!!
Im taking December exam… and wow.. im scared….
Any tips?!?
Once again, congrats!!!!!!!
Kye, I totally get it. The fear. The anxiety. The what-ifs.
The LSAT is awful so try your best to channel that nervous energy into your preparation. Double check your plastic bag and checklist– in my testing room, 2 people were sent home because they forgot their passport photo!
If you haven’t yet, check out my post on tips for the last week. Best of luck to you!
Congratulations! I’ve started to get decisions too, but I didn’t have a one hit wonder like you, so I’ve got the joy of trying to decide between schools. I’m sure we’ll both find tons of great prep material prior to law school. I’ve heard that the book Getting to Maybe is a must read on how to take 1L exams.
